Congratulations to Sempai Mariah Blunt and the entire Canadian contingent who recently competed and coached at the WKF Junior, Cadet & U21 World Championships in Tenerife, Spain.  Sempai Mariah completed the competition – her last in the Under 21 category – with a 9th place finish.  Well done Sempai!

The coming weeks will continue to have a dual focus:  helping eligible students to prepare for upcoming belt tests as well as helping all interested athletes to prepare for the upcoming 2017 All Alberta Karate Invitational tournament.  This tournament will be held in Calgary on November 25.  See the link on the right side of this page for more information.  Please note that this is the 4th edition of the tournament where the goal is to further foster the development of athletes of all ages in a fun and competitive environment.  The tournament has been a great success since its inception because of the commitment of both athletes and volunteers.  Volunteers can assist with range of activities for a couple of hours or the whole day.  Please contact me or Sempai Mariah with any questions about the competition and to volunteer – help us to make this tournament a rewarding day for everyone.

  • Class cancellation:  classes are cancelled on Thursday, November 23, due to school use.
  • Belt testing before Christmas is still the plan for eligible colored belts. Eligible black belts will test after Christmas.  Please contact me with any questions.
  • Sensei Luis Plumacher is holding a Kumite Clinic open to all interested athletes, green belt and up, age 11 and older, on Saturday, December 2.  Contact me for more details.
  • We have been asked by the school custodial staff to ensure that we leave our shoes in the front hall on the mats provided, though we will still leave our gym bags in the hall just outside the gym during classes.
  • The last day of classes before the Christmas break is Tuesday December 19.  Classes restart on Thursday, January 4.
