Happy New Year! Welcome back to training for 2018. The holiday break gave many of us a chance for rest and relaxation; if you got a little too relaxed, don’t worry, we will add some extra fitness to our training sessions to get us all back on track. I know all of you enjoy the Ab Ripper workout just as much as I do!
Our focus in class has been on reviewing and cleaning up important techniques – recently we spent a lot of time on perfecting our head kicks and, more importantly, finding the right opportunity to throw them. As we go through multiple repetitions, remember, when you practice a technique slowly, think about it, understand what you are doing at each phase and make corrections. When you are performing the techniques at full speed, stop thinking and just feel the movement.
In the coming weeks the Alberta provincial team roster will be finalized in preparation for the 2018 Karate Canada National Championships to be held in Halifax on March 9 to 11. We have six members of our dojo working hard to earn a spot on the team – good luck to all and remember, you don’t get what you wish for, you get what you work for.
