Our time in the dojo since September has been focused on helping members get ready for tournaments and competitions. Right from the start we stepped up the fitness and spent a great deal of time working on tactics in the kumite ring – building on the work our athletes did to get ready for the Canadian National Championships this past summer. At the national championships, Donya Movaffagh finished first in her cadet kumite division and Omar Almishri took home the silver medal in his cadet division. Diego Ruiz achieved a silver medal his division in the senior category and a bronze medal in the U21 category. These performances qualified Donya and Omar to participate in the Pan American Junior Championships in Mexico in August and the Junior World Championships in Turkiye in October. Both had excellent showings in the tournaments, with Omar finishing 5th in the Junior World Championships. Congratulations to all our athletes for their hard work, commitment and excellent results, and a big thank you to their coaches, dojo members and families for all their support.
