The dojo has had a very busy fall season with full classes and multiple competition and training events for our competitors. Karate Alberta has held several development clinics aimed at supporting and developing our kumite and kata athletes. Once again our club members had excellent results at internatonal events. Donya Movaffagh finished 7th and Omar Almishri finished first in their divisions at Junior Pan Ams  Congratulations to you both! 

Our Alberta Chito Kai Association is holding a first aid course at the Canmore Karate Club on September 15th.  Note there is an online portion that must be completed prior to the course.  For all those interested registration information can be found here.

The 14th International Soke Cup will be held  August 11-13, 2023 in Kumamoto, Japan.  The tournament presents a unique opportunity to expand our cultural horizons, demonstrate our technical abilities, and to foster strong bonds of friendship throughout the Chito-ryu community. 25th Annual Spring Tournament and Workshops Invitational March 12, 2023

On March 12, 2023 South Calgary Wado Kai will be hosting a WKF rules tournament. There will be recreational and elite divisions for ages 10 and up.

Congratulations to Donya Movaffagh and Omar Almishri for their results at the Canada Games
recently held in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Donya took home the gold medal, finishing in top
place in her division. Donya’s accomplishment is especially sweet: as a 15-year old, she needed special
permission to compete in the 16/17 year-old category.


The WKF has published new competition rules for 2023.  The are number of significant changes including:


  • The manditory use of face masks or helmets for U14 categories.  In 2024 the exclusive use of a WKF approved helmet will be compulsory.
  • The combining and reduction of category 1 and 2 warnings into one stream.

Our time in the dojo since September has been focused on helping members get ready for tournaments and competitions.
